Restored, Reimagined and Ready to Gather
Petal and Bloom near Rome brings new life to a historic farmhouse with five guest suites, gathering spaces and a few beautiful surprises.

There are some places you walk into and immediately start wondering about all the lives they have already held.
Petal and Bloom, a restored historic farmhouse just outside Rome, is one of those places.
I recently had the chance to tour the property after Jeff Petroski and Murphy Williams brought it back to life, and what struck me first was not just how beautiful it is, although it really is. It was the care behind the restoration. The home still feels like a farmhouse. It still has that sense of history and character. But now, every room feels fresh, warm and thoughtfully designed for the way people gather today.
With five private guest suites, shared gathering spaces, outdoor areas and a basement lounge that feels like a hidden surprise, Petal and Bloom has been reimagined for wedding weekends, family gatherings, retreats and group getaways. It gives people room to spread out, but it also creates the kind of spaces where everyone naturally comes back together.
Each suite has its own name and personality: Wild Rose, Lavender, Jasmine, Apple Blossom and Lily and Lace. Some are cozy and simple, while others offer extra room for additional guests, sitting areas or connecting space. The details feel personal without being overdone, and the private baths, kitchenettes, Smart TVs and climate control make the stay comfortable without taking away from the charm of the house.
At the center of the property is the Sunflower Café kitchen and dining area, a bright shared space where guests can make coffee, gather for breakfast, bring in dinner or sit around the table together. It is easy to picture a wedding party starting the day there, a family lingering over coffee, or a group settling in after a day of exploring.
And then there is the basement.
A speakeasy-style lounge underneath a farmhouse near Rome was not exactly what I expected, but it may be one of the most memorable parts of the property. With a fireplace, pool table, poker table, games, bar area and lounge seating, it has a completely different feel from the upstairs suites. It is the kind of space where people can stay awhile, unwind and enjoy being together.
What makes Petal and Bloom special is that it does not feel like the past was erased. It feels like the house was given another chance.
The before-and-after photos tell that story beautifully. You can see the transformation from tired rooms and forgotten corners into spaces that feel bright, welcoming and full of possibility. It is the kind of restoration that reminds you how much beauty already exists in the Mohawk Valley when someone takes the time to see what a place can become.
