Rome Health welcomes its newest general surgeons, Dr. Leo Amodu, MPH, DABS, and Dr. Sayali Kulkarni, who bring advanced training in foregut procedures to the Rome community. Together, they provide specialized evaluation and surgical care for conditions affecting the esophagus, stomach and upper digestive system.

What Is the Foregut?
The foregut includes the esophagus, stomach and beginning of the small intestine. Conditions affecting these areas can cause persistent heartburn, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, abdominal discomfort and other symptoms that can impact everyday life.
Advanced Surgical Treatment
When surgery is appropriate, they offer minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures, creating personalized treatment plans based on each patient’s needs.
Advanced Technology at the Kaplan Center
The new Kaplan Center for Surgical Services expands Rome Health’s surgical capabilities with two state-of-the-art da Vinci robotic surgical systems. The technology allows surgeons to perform many procedures through small incisions while providing enhanced visualization, precision and control—giving patients access to advanced minimally invasive care close to home.
When Should You See a Specialist?
If heartburn or acid reflux is persistent, medications aren’t providing enough relief, or you’re experiencing difficulty swallowing, recurring discomfort or other ongoing digestive symptoms, it may be time for a consultation. Dr. Amodu and Dr. Kulkarni can evaluate your symptoms, explain your options and determine whether surgery or another treatment approach may be right for you.
