Five Years of Sparking Curiosity
The NY Energy Zone’s Super-Powered Saturday event brings superheroes, Touch-A-Truck fun, bounce houses, crafts, giveaways, and more to Utica.
Before the backpacks come out and the school-year routine begins, there is still time for one more summer day that feels big, exciting, and completely easy for families.
On Saturday, August 22, the NY Energy Zone in Utica will host its Super-Powered Saturday, a free community celebration for visitors of all ages. Located right next to the Utica Zoo, the event brings together some of the things kids love most: superheroes, big trucks, hands-on activities, bounce houses, giveaways, and the chance to explore vehicles they usually only see driving by. This year, the NY Energy Zone will also be celebrating its five-year anniversary of sparking curiosity about energy and electricity.
The highlight of the day is Touch-A-Truck, featuring a variety of emergency and NYPA vehicles. Families can get an up-close look at the vehicles that help keep our communities moving and safe. For kids, it’s the chance to climb, point, ask questions, take photos, and see these impressive vehicles from a whole new perspective.

Adding to the fun, the event will include superhero-themed activities and appearances, giving children another reason to dress up, imagine, and jump into the spirit of the day. It is a perfect fit for the Energy Zone, where the idea of “power” comes to life in a fun and family-friendly way.
Safety presentations, arts and crafts activities, bounce houses, giveaways, and more round out the day, making it an easy outing for families looking to make the most of the final stretch of summer.

Inside the NY Energy Zone, the fun continues with interactive exhibits that turn electricity, energy, and technology into a hands-on experience. Visitors can explore exhibits, watch a 3D movie, learn about solar and wind energy, step into the role of a control room operator, and discover how power travels across New York State.
It is educational, but it does not feel like school. It feels like a summer adventure.
And for parents, it checks every box: free admission, free parking, indoor and outdoor activities, family-friendly entertainment, and a location right next to the Utica Zoo.
Whether you make it the main event or pair it with a zoo visit, lunch, or one last ice cream stop, the Super-Powered Saturday event is a simple way to turn an August day into a memory.
