Sometimes, the love of the game goes far beyond a public course or country club. Across the Mohawk Valley, golf has become such a part of everyday life that for some, it even extends into their own backyard.

In Marcy, Mole Run is a privately built 10-hole backyard course created purely for the enjoyment of the game and the community that comes with it. This season, the course may expand even further, with plans for four additional holes and the addition of three greenside sand traps. Custom-built benches have also been added throughout the property, creating places for players to gather and take in the experience between holes.

Today, Mole Run hosts a regular Wednesday evening group of 14 members, where rounds are followed by a full dinner after play – another reminder that in the Mohawk Valley, golf has always been about much more than just the scorecard.
