Associated Medical Professionals of New York

Four Physicians. A Shared Commitment to Care.
Meet four of the Mohawk Valley’s 2026 Top Doctors in urology.

All four physicians recognized in the urology category of Mohawk Valley Living’s 2026 Top Doctors reader poll practice at Associated Medical Professionals of New York (AMP): Dr. Brent Carlyle, Dr. Bashar Omarbasha, Dr. Jeffrey Sekula and Dr. Daniel Welchons. Their work addresses concerns that can be difficult to talk about and challenging to live with, from bladder control and sexual health to recurring kidney stones and a cancer diagnosis.

Each brings different experience to the practice, giving patients access to a broad range of medical and surgical care.

Brent E. Carlyle, MD

Before his career in medicine, Dr. Brent Carlyle served as an Intelligence Officer and Army Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment. A West Point graduate, he completed four overseas tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before earning his medical degree at the University at Buffalo and completing his general surgery and urology training at The Ohio State University.

Today, Dr. Carlyle treats a wide range of urologic conditions, with a particular interest in surgery for kidney cancer. His experience includes robotic procedures to remove part or all of a kidney, minimally invasive repair of pelvic organ prolapse and treatments for urinary incontinence.

Board certified in urology, he is trained in robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and traditional open surgical techniques. Outside his practice, Dr. Carlyle and his wife, Lauren, are the parents of five children.

Bashar Omarbasha, MD

Caring for patients, studying new treatments and teaching future physicians have all been part of Dr. Bashar Omarbasha’s career. In practice since 1990, he brings fellowship training in urologic oncology to his work, along with special interests in male sexual dysfunction and male and female incontinence.

After his urology residency at Boston University Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, he spent three years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center focused on urological cancers. His research has included clinical trials investigating new treatments for prostate and bladder cancer, as well as studies involving low testosterone and sexual health.

Dr. Omarbasha also works with residents and medical students as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Urology at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. He has authored publications and book chapters and earned designation as a UroLift® Center of Excellence.

Jeffrey J. Sekula, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Sekula’s practice includes conditions that can affect both a patient’s health and everyday comfort, from kidney stones and benign prostate disease to genitourinary cancers. His training includes metabolic stone evaluation, which investigates factors that may contribute to kidney stone formation.

He also has a particular interest in prosthetic urology, including penile implants, urinary slings and urinary sphincters. These procedures are among the options he offers for sexual dysfunction and urinary control problems.

Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Sekula earned his medical degree at UMDNJ–New Jersey Medical School and completed his urology residency at Duke University Medical Center. Board certified in urology, he has also participated in clinical studies and contributed to publications including Journal of Urology and Prostate.

Daniel R. Welchons, MD

For Dr. Daniel Welchons, helping patients understand their care is an important part of his work.

“I believe patients make the best decisions when they truly understand their options. I make it a priority to explain not just what I recommend, but why — so patients feel informed and confident every step of the way.”

His practice includes laparoscopic, robotic and prosthetic surgery, with interests in urologic cancers, enlarged prostate, voiding dysfunction and sexual dysfunction. He has also studied treatments for enlarged prostate and earned designation as a UroLift® Center of Excellence in 2020.

Board certified in urology, Dr. Welchons received a full-tuition academic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine after graduating with highest honors from Geneseo State University. He completed his surgical internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his residency through the Harvard Program in Urology. During training, he was involved in teaching Harvard medical students and served as an instructor in robotic surgery for the New England Urology Training Course.

“Having four of our urologists honored in this year’s reader poll speaks to something bigger than individual recognition — it reflects a culture at Associated Medical Professionals of NY where collaboration and patient-centered care come first. We’re incredibly proud of our urology team and grateful to the Mohawk Valley community for their trust.”
