For 19 years, Dr. Ahmad Shafi Mian has cared for patients with kidney disease in the Mohawk Valley. Throughout that time, his approach has remained simple: “For me, Patient Care comes first, everything else follows.”
After graduating from Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Mian completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He then joined Drs. Eldredge and Tisch at Mohawk Valley Nephrology Associates, where he has built his career caring for patients in our community.
Along with his work at the practice, Dr. Mian has taken an active role in local dialysis care. He has served as medical director of the MVHS Dialysis Program since 2010 and now also serves as medical director of the US Renal Dialysis Program in the Mohawk Valley region. His involvement in dialysis care has been a significant part of his work here, spanning more than 15 years.
Dr. Mian also serves as vice president of the medical staff at Wynn Hospital. Together, his practice and leadership responsibilities have kept him closely involved in the care available to patients throughout the region.
When describing his approach to that work, Dr. Mian points to a favorite quote from Dr. Francis Peabody: “The secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient.” It’s a belief that reflects his own words about putting patients first, and one that continues to guide his work after nearly two decades in the Mohawk Valley.
