For nearly eight decades, the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days has celebrated the skills, traditions, and heritage of the forest industry while bringing thousands of visitors to Boonville each summer.
Returning August 21-23 to the Oneida County Fairgrounds in Boonville, the event has become one of the largest and most recognized woodsmen competitions in the Northeast, drawing competitors, exhibitors, and spectators from across the United States and Canada.
At the heart of the weekend are the lumberjack competitions that showcase the strength, precision, and athleticism required in the forestry profession. Competitors will battle for top honors in events including log rolling, axe throwing, speed climbing, crosscut sawing, and other traditional lumberjack contests. This year’s event will once again feature both the World’s Open Lumberjill Championship and the New York State Open Lumberjack Championship.
Beyond the competition arena, Woodsmen’s Field Days offers something for the entire family. Visitors can explore forestry exhibits, equipment demonstrations, educational displays, artisan vendors, and community exhibits that highlight the importance of New York’s forest products industry and outdoor heritage.
The event also serves as a gathering place for those who appreciate the region’s deep connection to the outdoors. Gates open daily at 8 a.m. and admission includes access to all grandstand events. Camping is available by reservation.
