“Our goal is simple: to make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of people right here in our own backyard,” said Robert Esche, Chairman of the Save of the Day Foundation. “This tournament isn’t just about golf. It’s about the generosity of some amazing friends that have been with us since the start. This foundation started on the back of a napkin, and has grown to inject more than $3 Million into our local community”

The Rob Esche Save of the Day Foundation brought back its epic Golf Outing and
the event sold out once again, while well exceeding their goal of netting $100,000. The funds directly support children facing life- threatening illness, veterans, law enforcement, and local families navigating difficult circumstances across the Mohawk Valley. Over the past two decades, the Foundation has raised more than $3 million and helped over 300 families, all of it staying right here in the community to make a real, lasting difference.
Foundation Director, Erica Hagan shares, “The success of this year’s golf outing reflects the strength and love of our community’s commitment to making a meaningful difference. The generosity of our participants and sponsors directly supports Save of the Day Foundation programs that create lasting impact for those we serve. We are deeply grateful for everyone who made this impact possible.”
This year’s tournament also carried special meaning, honoring the life and legacy of 9-year-old Gavin Jerzak, whose strength, joy, and love for life inspired so many. Gavin battled a rare liver disease that required multiple transplants and long hospital stays, but through every challenge, the Foundation was there to support his family—not only financially, but with personal connections and constant encouragement. The Utica Comets players and staff became a true second family to the Jerzaks—visiting the hospital over the holidays, surprising Gavin with gifts, and welcoming him to private practices and games at the Adirondack Bank Center. “Rob, Erica, Michael, and the whole Comets team didn’t just support us—they became family,” said Gavin’s mother, Dana. “They were always checking in, always cheering Gavin on. They showed up when it mattered most.”
Beyond the golf course, Gavin’s memory continues to shine through the new Around the World exhibit planned at the Utica Children’s Museum—a reflection of his love for travel, food, and adventure that will inspire young visitors for years to come.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, players, and donors, Save of the Day continues to bring hope, opportunity, and meaningful support to hundreds of individuals and organizations across the region—proving that when this community comes together, amazing things happen.
