Run of the Mill Liquors opens its doors in Clayville

There’s something special about seeing an old building find new life, especially when its history remains part of the story.
In Clayville, Steve Lowe and Tanner Stewart have brought Run of the Mill Liquors to the historic Latus Mill, celebrating the store’s grand opening with an October 9 ribbon cutting in partnership with the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce.
The idea behind the business was straightforward: create a convenient, accessible wine and spirits shop for local residents and the commuters who travel through the area each day. Finding a home in the mill gave the owners an opportunity to bring new activity to a building with longstanding ties to the community.
“For us, this was really about creating something convenient for the people who live here and those who travel through the area every day,” says Steve. “At the same time, we had an opportunity to bring a new business into the Latus Mill and continue breathing life back into a building that has been part of this community for a long time. We wanted the store to feel like it belonged here, so maintaining the character of the building was important to us throughout the renovation.”
That care shaped the space. Renovations worked around the mill’s existing rustic character, incorporating farmhouse-inspired touches while preserving elements of its past. The result is a store with a setting that is very much part of its appeal.
Inside, customers will find a broad selection of wines and spirits in an approachable, easy-to-shop environment
For Steve and Tanner, it’s a chance to serve the community while contributing to the next chapter of a historic property, one that now gives neighbors another reason to stop in. Run of the Mill Liquors can be found at 1960 NYS Route 8 in Clayville.
