TAKE A THANKSGIVING TROT

Before settling in for turkey, stuffing and maybe a second helping of everything, lace up your sneakers for the Little Falls Turkey Trot! This Thanksgiving morning 5K winds through Moreland Park and downtown Little Falls, with proceeds benefiting the Little Falls Food Pantry. The race is limited to 160 runners and typically sells out, so don’t wait until Thanksgiving morning to decide you’re feeling ambitious. No day-of registration!

LEARN THE HISTORY CLOSE TO HOME

November is Native American Heritage Month, a perfect time to explore the history and culture of the Haudenosaunee people. Visit the Iroquois Museum in Howes Cave, where this year’s exhibitions explore Haudenosaunee experiences during the American Revolution and the lasting impact of Native boarding schools. Don’t wait too long! The museum closes for the winter after November 29.

SHOP SMALL, LOVE LOCAL!

Some of my favorite places to shop aren’t big-name stores, they’re the little shops, boutiques and family-owned businesses right here in our communities! With Small Business Saturday coming up, I thought I’d share a few personal favorites from around the Mohawk Valley. Whether you’re Christmas shopping or just browsing, show some love to the people behind our local businesses. You might even find a new favorite of your own!

TUNE IN TO A 100-YEAR THANKSGIVING TRADITION

Before the turkey goes in the oven and family starts arriving, tune in to a Thanksgiving morning favorite! The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, a century after employees first marched through New York City in 1924. Pour the coffee, stay in your pajamas and enjoy the balloons, bands and floats making their way through Manhattan. Some traditions are worth keeping!
