As I welcome the new year with Mohawk Valley Living and with all of you, I keep coming back to how grateful I am for this work. Sharing the places, people, and experiences that make this region so special has been one of the greatest joys of my life. This past year reminded me, again and again, how strong and generous this community is. Being able to tell those stories, shine a light on local talent, and celebrate the things that make the Mohawk Valley feel like home is something I never take for granted.
Every January feels like a fresh start, but this year I found myself thinking less about reinvention and more about resetting in ways that actually feel possible. We live in a world that pushes constant improvement, yet the things that move us forward are usually much simpler. Small shifts. Better habits. Clearer priorities. A little more care for ourselves and the people around us.
That is the spirit behind this issue.
Our cover story brings together local experts and voices to explore what a “new you” can look like when it is grounded in real life. From fitness with Lisa Briggs to health with Dr. Juleen Qandah, and to strength, recovery, nutrition, and mental clarity shared by others in our community, each piece offers something you can carry into the new year without the pressure of perfection. It is about choosing what supports you and letting go of the rest.
Our MVL Food Tour with RoAnn Destito is back, and this time we’re keeping warm with the region’s best places for soup. Our Winter Playbook for Outdoor Fun follows the same idea. This is the time of year when the Mohawk Valley can feel quiet, but there is so much to do if you know where to look. Old Forge, outdoor trails, and cold-weather adventures all made the list.
Our MV Grown section looks ahead to the 2026 farm season with a candid look at what the past year taught us and what farmers are preparing for now. No industry reflects resilience quite like agriculture, and this month’s piece reminds us how much work goes into keeping our region fed.
We also have MV At Home with guest editor Jill Hayes, January entertainment, arts, events, and a closer look at the stories that shape life in the Mohawk Valley as we enter a new year.
And in our Giving Back column, I wanted to focus on a different kind of resolution. January tends to be about bettering ourselves, but the most meaningful change often comes from what we do for other people. Choosing one or two organizations to support all year, in whatever way fits your life, can make a real difference. Consistency matters more than scale.
Thank you for beginning 2026 with us. I am excited for everything ahead this year and honored to continue telling the stories of a region I care so deeply about.
With heartfelt gratitude and my warmest wishes for the year ahead,
Carrie
